Hello World

I’m so excited about starting this blog!

Ah, should probably say hello first…

When a new patient walks through my clinic doors and sits down in the consult room, my first question to them is usually, “How can I help you?” But maybe it should be, “How have you been helping yourself?”

When we’re children or teenagers we give little thought to our health: we seem to bounce back from injury pretty quickly, and get away with eating things like McDonalds. But as we start to explore our thirties and beyond, many of us get a wakeup call. Our bodies start to be a little less forgiving.

By forty, some people are already on medications to treat what have become ongoing issues, whether they’re muscular, or for blood pressure and cholesterol.

For me, the big question to ask is: “What’s within my power to keep myself in the best physical and mental shape so that I can do what I want, when I want?”

Why do some people wait til they have a heart attack to lose weight, stop smoking, exercise, or just take fish oil? If they made those changes 25 years ago, would they have even had the heart attack in the first place?

I’m so excited about launching this blog because it means I get to help more than just the people that come through my door, and helping is one of the main reasons I got into chiropractic anyway!

Of course, whether you have a pain in the neck or a crick in the back, you’re welcome to come visit. And while your symptoms may wildly vary, the real reason you seek help, if I may be presumptuous is because you just want to be happy and feel good. You, like me, would like to be free to enjoy what you want, when you want to.

So, with our first hello at an end, I’ll leave you with something from The World Health Organization which sums what this blog and I are all about: Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

Talk soon,

Dr. Ashley.
